How to apply DTF UV stickers?

How do you apply DTF UV stickers?

To apply DTF UV stickers, you need to clean the surface, remove the backing, apply the transfer, smooth out air bubbles, and remove the top layer.

Below we explain each step so you can perform it perfectly.

    Step 1: Clean the surface

Before you start, make sure the surface of your item is clean. Dust, grease, or even fingerprints can reduce the adhesive strength.

Use an alcohol wipe or a clean cloth with a little isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the surface thoroughly clean and let it dry completely.

Step 2: Remove the carrier film

Next, you need to remove the white paper or plastic backing. This releases the adhesive of the sticker.

    Step 3: Apply the transfer

Then apply your sticker to the surface and press out any air bubbles with your fingers. Do not rush this step, as trapped air can distort the sticker.

Step 4: Remove the transparent layer

Now carefully remove the top transparent layer of the sticker. Take your time here so you can be sure that the sticker stays properly on the object.

Does the sticker come with the transparent layer? Then press it firmly back down and try peeling from a different angle. The slower you do this, the better the result.

    Step 5: Done!

Congratulations! If you have followed these steps, you have now applied a beautiful new sticker that you can be proud of.

Surfaces on which you should not apply DTF UV stickers

Some surfaces are simply not suitable for DTF UV stickers, and removal is often unpredictable:

    • Silicone naturally has low surface tension. The adhesive does not bond well and the DTF UV sticker often peels off on its own within a few hours.
    • Flexible rubber or soft TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) bends continuously during use. This movement breaks the adhesion, causing the DTF UV sticker to quickly come loose at the edges.
    • Water-repellent or heavily waxed surfaces completely repel the adhesive. The DTF UV sticker will not stay on at all.
    • Fabrics and soft textiles are not suitable for DTF UV stickers. The transfer tears, comes loose, and does not survive wash cycles.
    • Sharply curved or complex curved surfaces cause air bubbles and peeling edges. DTF UV stickers can follow slight curves (such as a cup), but not complex shapes.

    FAQ

Can items with DTF UV stickers go in the dishwasher?
No. We recommend not putting DTF UV stickers in the dishwasher. Although some DTF UV stickers can survive a few wash cycles, the heat and water pressure often weaken the adhesive and shorten the lifespan of the DTF UV sticker.

How long do DTF UV stickers last?
DTF UV stickers generally last 3 to 5 years or longer. The UV-cured ink is resistant to water, scratches, and sunlight, keeping DFT UV stickers bright and durable when applied to clean, smooth surfaces.

Can you remove DTF UV stickers?
Yes, but it takes some effort. The adhesive is strong, so you may need warm water or a hair dryer to loosen it. After removal, you can clean adhesive residue with alcohol, but be careful not to damage the surface.

Can you apply DTF UV stickers to fabric?
No. DTF UV stickers do not bond well to fabric and will quickly come loose or tear. They are intended for hard, smooth surfaces such as plastic, glass, wood, or metal.
